To celebrate our 7th birthday, For The Girls is holding an erotic film competition. Our aim is to discover new short films that depict an erotic subject from a female point of view. DEADLINE EXTENDED! THE FEMALE GAZE The "gaze" is a term used to describe the way visual depictions present people and situations from a gendered perspective. Almost all mainstream movies and porn is presented with a male gaze; it assumes the audience is male and the camera acts like a man's eye, looking at things as a man would. The female gaze is the opposite. Films and photos shot using the female gaze speak to a female audience and depict a woman's perspective. Our short film competition aims to encourage the female gaze in erotic film. THE COMPETITION We are seeking original high quality short films up to 10 minutes in length that offer an erotic experience from a female perspective. Films do not have to be explicit but should deal with erotic or sexual themes in some way. Ideally we want to see arousing, thought-proving and moving films that capture a woman's experience of sex or sexuality. Entries don't have to be made by professionals. First-time filmmakers are welcome. We are happy to see submissions from anyone with a desire to create good female-friendly erotic art. Films should feature the official signature item, the number 7, in some way. The signature item can be peripheral or central to the story but it must be present in some form in order for the film to be eligble. There are no fees to enter this competition. THE PRIZES First Prize is US$400 and a screening of the winning film at Cinekink Film Festival in New York in 2011. Second Prize is US$100. The top 5 films will also go onto Cinekink for automatic consideration in that festival. The two winning films will feature prominently within the member's area of For The Girls. We will also consider non-exclusively licensing other entries for use within the site. DEADLINE Note: The deadline for this competition has now been extended to the 6th September 2010. Winners will now be announced on 20th September. The Female Gaze erotic film competition officially opens on Monday June 14, 2010 Final deadline for entries is Monday, August 16, 2010 Winners will be announced on Monday August 30, 2010 TECHNICAL DETAILS Films can be in either 4:3 format or 16:9 widescreen, standard or high definition, sized at a minimum of 720x576. Animation or experimental film is welcome. As we are a website, we prefer it if film submissions are primarily made electronically via Yousendit or a similar upload tool. Yousendit allows you to send up to 2GB files for free. We will accept films in MPEG2, WMV, MOV, M2T or MP4 formats. We cannot accept Flash videos. If you wish to send a DVD of your film, please contact us for postal details. (femalegaze AT forthegirls DOT com) Films must be no more than 10 minutes in length. LEGAL DETAILS All participants must be over 18. If your film is explicit or contains any nudity at all, you will need to ensure you comply with US 2257 - the US law that ensures all performers are over 18. This means that, on top of a standard model release, you will need to have copies of two forms of government identification (e.g. a driver's licence, passport) and a signed 2257 form. You'll find sample forms and information here. Complying with this part of the law is your responsibility. As part of the competition, we need copies of this information. This means we need a scan or photo of every model's drivers licence or similar government ID (address reacted) and a scan of the appropriately signed release and 2257 forms. This identification is merely for our records and will not be made public. We need it to ensure that the competition is legal. Any music used must be either original or appropriately licensed by the filmmaker. Responsibility for compliance with copyright laws lies with the filmmaker. As a filmmaker, you are also legally responsible for complying with any other relevant laws relating to the hiring of adult workers or the creation of erotic films where you live. SUBMISSIONS Send Yousendit submissions to femalegaze AT forthegirls DOT com Your submission needs to be accompanied with the following information (sent in a separate email if necessary). Name Film Title The email should also include the Filmmaker Declaration (see below). Model IDs and releases should be attached to the email. TERMS Filmmakers must be aged 18 years or over as at January 1, 2010. Filmmakers will continue to own any film created for this competition. For The Girls will retain exclusive electronic rights to the winning 2 films for six months and non-exclusive rights indefinitely. Filmmakers remain free to screen their work, submit their films to festivals or to secure DVD distribution in the meantime. If For The Girls chooses to license other submitted entries, the fee for an indefinite non-exclusive electronic license will be US$50. Winners and licensees will be paid electronically. Small extracts from the winning films may appear on our blog and RSS feeds or in promotional material. For The Girls reserves the right to edit submitted films if necessary. You may use a pseudonym if you wish. A maximum of three submissions per filmmaker will be considered. The winning film will be offered a screening at the Cinekink Film Festival and the top six will be automatically considered without a submission fee. If you wish your films to be part of the festival, they will need to be available in DVD format for the festival and you will need to fill out the appropriate Cinekink entry and submission release forms. We will not accept films that feature any of the following themes or acts: non-consensual sex, bestiality, underage sex, incest, ass to mouth, violent or abusive sex, or anything where women are treated without respect (although consensual BDSM scenes are fine). The filmmaker agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Purple Kama, its officers and assigns from and against any and all claims, suits, damages, and liabilities (including reasonable attorneys' fees) which are based on any claim of copyright infringement, plagiarism or unauthorized use.
